As the UK's leading Social Enterprise we're dedicated to creating inclusive and thriving Communities for both our Customers and Employees.

So, what are you waiting for? Join a community that cares about you!

More about your role

As a Specialist Surveyor, you'll play a key role in ensuring our homes remain safe, compliant and well maintained. You'll deliver a wide range of surveying services across our housing portfolio, including stock condition surveys, defect investigations, disrepair assessments, option appraisals, acquisitions and disposals, and compliance data capture. You'll provide expert technical advice on building defects and property performance, produce detailed survey reports and support programmes relating to asbestos monitoring, energy assessments and radon testing.

Working closely with colleagues across the business, you'll help identify investment requirements, improve asset performance and ensure property data is accurately captured within our Asset Register. You'll also support customer engagement activities, manage risks effectively and ensure all surveying activities are delivered in line with health and safety requirements and industry best practice.

Essential criteria

  • Proven experience undertaking residential property inspections and surveys.
  • Strong knowledge of building defects, diagnosis and remedial works.
  • Experience producing survey reports and schedules of works.
  • Understanding of housing legislation, Building Regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Experience within social housing.
  • Housing disrepair experience.
  • Understanding of damp, mould and condensation investigations.
  • Experience in managing housing insurance claims.
  • Stock condition surveying experience.
  • Knowledge of asset management principles.
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB or equivalent professional body.

More about you

We're looking for a surveyor who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical, solution focused approach. You'll be organised, driven and self-motivated, capable of managing a varied workload and prioritising competing demands. You will be confident inspecting various types of residential properties, identifying building defects and diagnosing root causes rather than simply reporting symptoms. Whether investigating damp and mould, structural movement, building fabric failures or disrepair issues, you'll be able to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations and solutions.

A key part of the role involves producing professional reports, specifications and schedules of works, so you will require excellent written communication skills and, the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience of preparing reports for various stakeholders, legal proceedings, disrepair claims or investment planning would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently but equally effective as part of a wider team, building positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, customers and external stakeholders. You'll have a professional and customer-focused attitude.

Experience within social housing, stock condition surveying, housing disrepair, planned investment programmes, compliance surveying, acquisition surveys or asset management would be highly desirable. Professional membership of the RICS, or a commitment to achieving Chartered or Associate status, would also be welcomed. Membership of CIOB is desirable.
