Placemaking & Regeneration
As the UK's leading Social Enterprise, we move lives forward every day by building, managing and supporting thriving Communities. From new homes, social housing and student accommodation to leisure, education and Community initiatives, our work makes a positive difference to millions of People across the UK. And that takes People who care about doing the right thing. People who are ambitious, ready to grow and motivated to make a difference through the work they do.
Experience matters, but it's only part of the story. If you share our values and want to build a career where your work has real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
More about your role
This is a varied and high-profile Senior Technical Manager role, giving you the opportunity to work across complex residential development and major infrastructure projects rather than focusing solely on traditional housing delivery.
Your work will cover everything from design coordination, technical drawings and specifications through to planning, Building Control, utilities, highways, environmental considerations and technical approvals. You'll also work closely with our Development, Commercial, Build, Sales and Asset teams, providing technical expertise, challenging where needed and helping teams find practical, compliant and commercially considered solutions.
A key project you'll be involved with is the Gilston Park Estate in East Hertfordshire, an ambitious infrastructure-led development that will ultimately deliver 8,500 homes across six new villages.
This is far from a standard residential development. The wider infrastructure includes new bridges over a river and railway, major highways works, sustainable transport connections, country parks and community infrastructure. You'll have the opportunity to work across different elements of this complex programme, collaborating with a wide range of specialists and stakeholders to help bring the development to life.
Essential criteria
We're looking for someone who can bring strong technical knowledge but who also genuinely enjoys working with people and bringing different disciplines together.
You'll need:
- Strong experience within the housebuilding and infrastructure sector, with demonstrable technical or design delivery experience.
- Experience of working on complex residential developments and/or significant infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrable experience managing and coordinating external consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Experience managing drawings, specifications and technical information throughout the development lifecycle.
- Strong working knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM Regulations and relevant construction standards.
- Experience progressing statutory and technical approvals, which could include Building Control, planning conditions, Section 38 and Section 104 agreements.
- A good understanding of the wider technical considerations affecting development, such as utilities, highways, geotechnical, environmental and planning requirements.
- The confidence to work across multiple teams, manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
More about you
You'll be someone who enjoys the variety and challenge that comes with complex development. You won't need every day to look the same and you'll be comfortable moving between detailed technical matters, project meetings, consultants, internal stakeholders and wider project challenges.
Relationships will be a big part of your success. You'll be able to bring people together, challenge constructively and build credibility with different stakeholders, recognising that Technical sits at the heart of many competing project priorities.
You'll be comfortable taking ownership and making informed decisions independently, while still enjoying being part of a collaborative team. As a senior member of the Technical function, you'll also enjoy sharing your knowledge and supporting the development of others.
