The Ferry Project is a unique and award-winning charity that supports homeless people and the wider community in the Fenland area. An exciting opportunity has arisen at the project and we are looking for two Senior Multi Skilled Night Worker’s to join our team.

You will work at our night shelter and you will be responsible for providing a safe and welcoming environment to single homeless people for the duration of their stay with us. You will offer support and understanding to our clients as well as maintaining a clean, warm and positive environment which is vital to the smooth running of our night shelter.

What your role will be

Your role with us will be to offer extensive support and advice to the homeless community throughout their stay at the shelter. You will be responsible for the up keep of all areas, including void hostel rooms and you will ensure they are compliant with company standards and ready to be occupied at a moment’s notice.  You will also ensure all public areas are to a satisfactory level of cleanliness and hygiene and ensure regular checks of these areas are conducted.

You will work closely with our clients ensuring they feel supported and safe whilst they stay with us. You will assist in carrying out assessments and help highlight areas in which our clients need extra training. You will help set important goals and create action plans which will help our clients gain valuable skills with the confidence to equip them in the outside world.

PLEASE NOTE: You will work on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern working either 9pm to 9am or 8pm to 8am.

Your background

You should have experience working with vulnerable people and an ability to effectively manage difficult situations would be extremely beneficial for this role as well as a good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

You will have experience in a role where it has been a requirement to be extremely organised with an ability to multi task.  You will be responsible for a number of tasks and you must have the ability to prioritise your work based on the needs of our clients. 

Ultimately we are looking for an extremely caring person who adopts a positive attitude and will effectively work as part of a team.  A ‘can do’ attitude is essential for this role and a willingness to ensure all our clients leave the project feeling supported and determined to change their life is an absolute must.

About us 

Ferry Project started in March 1998 with £300 and 11 volunteers and the aim to help and support homeless people in Fenland. Over the years we have grown and developed additional services including the Employment service we are now offering. Ferry Project is an award-winning social enterprise and registered charity.

Luminus began life in March 2000.  We have 240 staff and serve a wide range of tenants and leaseholders throughout the East of England.  Recently Luminus joined the Places for People Group and is now embarked upon an ambitious programme of housing building, enhancements to customer service and organisational development. Ferry Project joined Luminus in 2005 as the two companies shared a joint vision of providing the best quality housing and support services to the communities they serve.
