More about your role

Following an internal move we require a Policy Research and Public Affairs Director to deliver a coordinated and proactive approach to policy development and our engagement with the external world. This strategic role, at the heart of one of the UK's leading property groups, will give you  responsibility for supporting Group Executive in the formulation of policy whilst managing relationships with a wide range of external audiences; policy makers, industry bodies, and campaigning groups.

You will contribute to the leadership of Places for People to build upon our entrepreneurial culture, driving employees to generate new ideas and business streams to grow the business. You will ensure the Group understands the impact of key policy changes and announcements/comments made by Ministers, Members of Parliament and opinion formers and is well placed to capitalise on them.

You will take a proactive view and build Places for People's policy position and promote our aims to key stakeholders, policy makers, media, customers, and the public. Working collaboratively, you will provide public affairs support to all business units with a focus on areas with strategic importance linked to the business plan. You will also design, refine, and deliver the Group's research programme in a timely manner to input into decision making across the organisation.

This role is home based with some travel to our offices across the UK and to our head office in London.

More about you

We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of the political environment, and workings of central and local government and someone with the gravitas and ability to influence policy makers and politicians. You will develop and help the Group to implement a public affairs strategy, therefore extensive experience in this area coupled with experience of research that translates into policy/action is required.

Strong stakeholder management skills are required as you will be expected to give advice and make decisions under pressure, at an Executive and Director level. You will need to come up with creative and innovative ways of getting our message and policies across to a wide range of external audiences.

The Board is innovative and focused on making a difference; this requires the business to be increasingly agile and responsive to change. Whilst the Group is ‘not for dividend', profit delivery is critical to the successful delivery of the vision, so efficiency and commercial thinking and political astuteness are fundamental.
